Lindsey Rae Johnson, Opera Singer, Music Teacher and Kindermusik Educator, San Francisco, CA


Praised for her passion, artistry, and commanding stage presence, soprano Lindsey Johnson has performed throughout the United States and Europe. A finalist in several vocal competitions and recipient of numerous music scholarships, Lindsey has participated in master classes with world class musicians, including Craig Terry, Costanza Cuccaro, and Sylvia Greenburg. She has coached with Danielle Orlando, Mary Dibbern, Elvia Puccinelli, Stephen Dubberly, Rebecca Turner, and Jessica Paul.

Lindsey made her soprano debut in 2010 as Sophie in Werther at the University of North Texas.  She has been seen onstage performing the roles of Mimi, Musetta, Lauretta, Morgana (Alcina), Susanna, Gretel, Norina, Adina, Marzelline, Papagena, Laurie Moss, Amy March, Rose Maurrant, Little Red Ridinghood (Into the Woods), Annie Oakley, Emma Carew (Jekyll & Hyde), and Melissa (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change).

In 2011, Lindsey participated in a Concert Artist Series in Tuscany with Oberlin in Italy and performed the role of Morgana in Alcina at UNT. Lindsey has also performed with the North Texas Opera on Tap chapter, in Fort Worth Opera’s world premiere of Before Night Falls (2010), and made her Messiah debut with First United Methodist Church in Frisco, Texas. In May 2011, she was selected to compete in Los Angeles at the Classical Singer convention. Lindsey has previously performed with Cedar Rapids Opera Theater, Sieur Du Luth Summer Arts Festival, the Frost School of Music in Salzburg, and Boğaziçi University Choir in Turkey. In 2012, she performed in Fort Worth Opera’s production of Tosca and served as an Artist with the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute (BASOTI).

Supplementing her musical accomplishments is a strong background in foreign language study. During her undergraduate coursework, Lindsey spent seven months studying in Germany and Austria, and in summer 2011 she spent five weeks studying and performing in Italy. While abroad, she has performed in recitals, opera scenes, and was a finalist in the Salzburg Program Vocal Competition. Lindsey has intermediate to advanced skills in German, French, and Italian, having studied each language for at least three years.

A native of Minneapolis, Lindsey moved to the Bay Area in 2012 followed by Portland in 2016. In California, she performed with the San Francisco Symphony ChorusLamplighters Music TheatreOpera on Tap San FranciscoWaffle Opera, and First Church of Christ, Scientist. Since moving to Portland, Lindsey has enjoyed performing with Portland Opera, Ping & Woof Opera, OperaBendRenegade Opera, Lark Opera, Queer Opera, Opera on Tap Portland, Light Opera of Portland, Portland SummerFest, Classical Revolution PDX, Coulter Concert Series, Mocks Crest Productions, The Dickens Carolers, The Episcopal Parish of St. John the Baptist, and Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater.

Lindsey received her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of North Texas. She graduated in 2012 with a 3.95 GPA, having studied under Dr. Lynn Eustis. Lindsey received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, magna cum laude, from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society, Delta Phi Alpha German honor society, Phi Kappa Phi academic honor society, Alpha Chi academic honor society, and Mu Phi Alpha professional music fraternity.
